Position description

The Assistant Controller is a key leader in the Finance Department. You will help to build, mentor and grow the Accounting team. This role will work closely with the Controller, owns the general ledger, monthly close process and help build scalable and well controlled processes.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the day-to-day management of accounting operations with a focus on efficient processes that support business needs including AR/Revenue, purchasing/AP, and reporting
  • Perform and manage tasks related to monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close and ensure the timeliness of internal financial reporting to management. This includes reviewing journal entries and reconciling balance sheet accounts as assigned.
  • Investigate, prepare and review variance analysis for the balance sheet and income statement.
  • Research and resolve all GAAP and technical accounting issues, including new rule adoption projects. Prepare technical memos and act as the internal expert to advise on accounting impacts for transactions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline accounting operations by developing and implementing efficient and scalable processes across general accounting areas.
  • Take lead role in  defining user requirements and defining automation of the consolidation process in our ERP.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audit requests, and aid in the research and analysis of audit issues.
  • Responsible for developing and coaching team members.

About you:

  • 7+  years experience in a combination of public accounting and industry. Preferably with 3+ years of experience in managerial capacity.
  • CPA required with hands-on experience in managing third-party financial audits
  • Solid planning, leadership, and prioritization skills. Demonstrates high energy with the ability to remain flexible and change priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong Excel skills and expertly use ERP systems to manage internal and external account information (Netsuite experience is a plus)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Hands-on experience overseeing the day-to-day Accounts Payable and General Ledger operations
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth company and/or startup is preferred
  • Strong track record of successfully motivating, developing, and helping people reach their full potential
