Position description

Counsyl has grown from a startup to become one of the largest clinical genome centers in the world. With this growth comes the necessity to bring on top-notch talent to help us strengthen our core initiatives and execute with excellence. The Director of Business Development will add to Counsyl’s growing corporate and business development function. Reporting directly to the SVP of Corporate Development, you will be a business development generalist with broad responsibility for assessing, negotiating and managing new collaborations both in the US and abroad, including performing financial modeling of opportunities, as well as manage alliances and field in-bound partnering inquiries and requests from external and internal stakeholders. You will partner with colleagues at all levels and work cross-functionally to advocate for deals and support the business needs of the company.

What you'll do

  • Identify markets currently performing carrier, inherited cancer and non-invasive pre-natal screening and those that are ripe for market development
  • Develop and perform quantitative analyses to determine the cost-savings for implementing Counsyl services in domestic and overseas territories
  • Identify, evaluate, and contact prospective healthcare partners, including hospitals, health systems, commercial entities and regional governments
  • Develop engagement and support for Counsyl services across policy makers, health executives, and physicians
  • Establish partnerships to provide Reproductive Health team with additional value added products and services
  • Articulate clinical and marketing value of Counsyl products to prospective partners
  • Work cross-functionally with commercial, finance, operations, R&D and engineering to support targeted expansion and localization
  • Convert strategy to execution by owning launch in key domestic and international geographies and managing successfully the ongoing alliances with partners

About you

  • BA/BS, with an advanced degree (MBA or JD) strongly preferred
  • At least 8 years experience in a business development position, with roles in pharma, biotech and/or diagnostics
  • Proven track record of deal sourcing, execution, partnership building, and relationship development, preferably including international markets
  • Passionate about Counsyl’s mission and allowing patients to make more informed decisions about their health
  • Outstanding communicator: you can capture your audience with a few well-written sentences
  • Analytical: facility with metrics, pipelines, and close rates
  • Ability to develop strong cross-functional relationships and influence key stakeholders
  • Willing to travel: expectation of 15-35% travel (including international trips) for this position
  • Fluency in European or Asian language and experience living abroad a plus
