Position description

As the Laboratory Operations Genetic Counseling Manager (Manager, LabOps GC) you will play a key role on the accessioning team to ensure proper testing is ordered and run through a very busy high-throughput laboratory. You will be a significant member of our Sample Ops team, taking on key communication responsibilities regarding sample flow and status in the laboratory. Additionally, you will work closely with the Laboratory Directors in the report review process.

You will also play a key role in creating scalable processes in support of this role and reducing touch points in the sample flow. For example, you will be the point person for recommendations around automation for the steps of the processes you manage. You will provide requirements to other teams (e.g., Development team) to build enhancements into our accessioning and panel review processes. As a manager, you will lead, develop and grow a team of laboratory based genetic counselors.

What you'll do

  • Review orders in accessioning to confirm clinically appropriate screen/panel was orderedCommunicate with ordering providers to discuss order alterations identified during accessioning
  • Act as primary resource for lab and commercial/counseling teams regarding sample flow and status inquiries
  • Create standard operating protocols related to both accessioning and sample operations roles
  • Create and approve all custom panels requested via Client Services
  • Understand and assist with the report review process
  • Work with the development team to automate processes that scale workflow
  • Interact with multiple functional teams in and outside the laboratory
  • Lead performance reviews and career development for LabOps Genetic Counselors
  • Apply for and maintain licensure in California

About you

  • You are an ABGC-certified genetic counselor with greater than 5 years experience; prior experience working in a laboratory is preferable
  • A leader who can motivate teams and work collaboratively
  • Computer savvy: Though not a programmer, you have above average IT skillsYou are that rare kind of person who has a way with both people and probabilities
  • You can self-motivate and work well independently
