Position description

As a Production Laboratory Scientist you would be responsible for assisting in the performance of quality control procedures for our high-throughput operation. This is a crucial role, as your job duties set the stage for the rest of our dynamic workflow.

What you'll do

  • Process laboratory specimens via molecular testing methods following standard procedures
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition, recognize any malfunctions and troubleshoot as needed
  • Verify the proper specimen being analyzed for patients and perform correct tests that need to be completed
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on instruments and equipment
  • Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory
  • Performs other tasks as specified by the manager/director.
  • Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to track requisition and specimen status and ensure prompt turnaround time of specimens
  • Set up laboratory equipment and perform equipment maintenance independently and according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures
  • Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments
  • Support the training of Laboratory Assistants on current and new procedures
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining personnel and training documents
  • Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and immediately communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary to ensure prompt resolution
  • Assist in the general upkeep of the laboratory
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment in the laboratory
  • May participate in Quality Assurance activities such as internal audits and inspection preparation
  • May assist with automated procedures according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures
  • Work alongside licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists in a CAP-accredited/CLIA certified laboratory environment

About you

  • BS/BA in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or similar field of study
  • Some hands on lab experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Ability to participate in projects and complete assignments as expected
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Word processing and data management
  • Flexible and very adaptable to change
