Counsyl’s automation team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers with backgrounds in software, mechanical, electrical, controls and service engineering along with molecular biologists and laboratory automation veterans. As a Senior Automation Engineer, Mechanical within Counsyl’s automation team, you will play a leading role in the scale-up of our automated laboratory to support the simultaneous processing of thousands of samples across multiple workflows. The focus of your work will be on the integration of the most advanced industrial automation and lab automation equipment with our in-house laboratory event scheduler and information management systems. This work interacts with many other aspects of Counsyl’s automation technology, from the design of custom instruments to helping scientists automate new biological assays.
As sample volume at Counsyl increases our world class automation must also scale to keep up with demand. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and launch of our integrated automation systems. These systems combine industrial robotics and in-house developed custom automation components with biological sample preparation equipment. This automation along with our custom software control systems lie at the heart of Counsyl’s state of the art DNA screening lab. Additionally the successful candidate will be instrumental in documenting the current system designs in order to facilitate the manufacture and assembly by outside contract manufacturers.
Counsyl is a health technology company that offers DNA screening for diseases that can impact men, women and their children. The Counsyl philosophy is simple: screen for diseases where advanced knowledge makes a difference in health outcomes, whether it’s changing a behavior, pursuing preventative measures, or simply preparing for what lies ahead.
The Counsyl team includes an accomplished group of problem-solvers — top engineers, scientists, and designers — who are taking the lead on building the modern clinical laboratory. Scientific rigor, custom robotics, and software are at the heart of every Counsyl product, resulting in better, faster and more affordable screens that are broadly accessible. Beyond the laboratory, Counsyl offers doctors and patients a technology platform for results delivery in real time, with on-demand access to board-certified genetic counselors.
Counsyl has screened more than 700,000 patients and served more than 6,000 health care professionals in its CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited and NYS CLEP-permitted clinical laboratory. The company has raised a total of $102 million and is privately backed by Pilot Growth Equity, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Founders Fund, Felicis Ventures, David Drummond, and other high profile investors.
