How it Works

We strive to make screening simple, so you can focus on what matters.

Counsyl is committed to making the screening process as streamlined as possible, and supporting you throughout.

We are committed to making screening accessible

We’re working to make DNA screening just as simple, and just as common, as going to the doctor for a physical. By keeping costs low and providing results in straightforward, easy-to-understand language we’re putting potentially life-changing information within everyone’s reach.

We support you throughout the process

Genetic screening doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Our unique Counsyl CompleteTM platform is designed to make screening as simple as possible. Our team of experts are here to support you throughout the process.

    Your provider orders the screen

All Counsyl screens need to be ordered by a healthcare provider and can be done with a simple blood sample. For the Counsyl Foresight Carrier Screen and the Counsyl Reliant Cancer Screen, you can contact us and we’ll work with your provider to authorize an order and ship you a kit for collecting a saliva sample. The Counsyl Prelude Prenatal Screen requires a blood draw.

    Provide a sample

Counsyl has partnered with third party patient service centers in order to provide phlebotomy options to patients. Your healthcare provider may already have in-house blood draw options available for you, but if your healthcare provider has directed you to our website for information on how to have your sample drawn, please use this tool to find the blood draw location that is most convenient for you.

    Get a cost estimate

Counsyl uses your insurance information to estimate how much you’ll owe for your screen. Your estimate will take into account your individual insurance plan, how much of your deductible you’ve paid so far, and any copays or coinsurance. Unless we hear from you, we will process your sample and move forward with your screen.

    Track your sample

You can create an online account to track your sample’s progress and watch educational videos. Your online account is also where you’ll be able to view your results, schedule time to talk with a genetic counselor, and pay your bill (if you owe anything).

Depending on your healthcare provider, you may receive an email when results are ready which would allow you to immediately download your results. Or you may be asked to schedule an appointment with one of Counsyl’s genetic counselors.

    Talk to a genetic counselor

A genetic counselor can help you understand your results and what they mean for you and your family. A consultation with one of our board-certified genetic counselors is included with every Counsyl screen. Our genetic counselors are available on-demand or by appointment.
